At the Crossroads: Downtown Demo or Develop
The July HomeNE Learning Network webinar highlighted the transformation of Minden’s historic 1887 Albers Building into five affordable housing units and a new downtown commercial space, 52 Tap House. Presenters shared lessons learned from navigating historic preservation requirements, securing multiple financing sources, and overcoming development challenges to bring a long-vacant building back into productive use. Participants also heard how the project attracted new residents, expanded housing options, and helped strengthen downtown revitalization efforts. The discussion offered practical insights for communities exploring adaptive reuse, affordable housing development, and public-private partnerships.
